Tamago Nigiri Sushi

Tamago Nigiri Sushi is a type of sushi that consists of a small block of cooked sweet omelette, typically made with egg, sugar, and soy sauce, that is layered atop a bed of vinegared sushi rice. The omelette is then draped over a single piece of nori, or seaweed paper, to hold the shape and provide a crunchy texture. Tamago Nigiri Sushi is a popular sushi choice in both Japan and abroad, and is often enjoyed as part of a sushi platter or as an individual piece.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 4 cups of cooked Japanese short grain rice
  • 4 sheets of nori
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of mirin
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar

Directions

  • Step 1
Mix together the mirin, soy sauce, and sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
  • Step 2
Crack the eggs into a bowl and beat them together with a fork.
  • Step 3
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and spray it with cooking spray. Pour the beaten eggs into the pan and cook until they’re set, about 4 minutes.
  • Step 4
Divide the cooked rice into 4 equal portions and spread each portion on a sheet of nori. Place a cooked egg on top of each portion of rice.
  • Step 5
Gently roll the nori and rice together, forming a cylinder shape. Dip the sushi in the soy sauce mixture and enjoy!
