Korean Kalbi

Korean Kalbi is a popular Korean dish that consists of marinated and grilled beef short ribs. It is usually made from beef ribs that have been marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and other seasonings. This dish is usually served with a side of rice, kimchi, and other vegetables. Kalbi is commonly served at special occasions and holidays in Korea, such as Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 pounds beef short ribs, cut into individual ribs
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine (or mirin)
  • 3 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger

Directions

  • Step 1
    In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice wine, garlic, sesame oil, and ginger.
  • Step 2
    Add the ribs to the marinade and mix to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
  • Step 3
    Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Step 4
    Arrange the ribs in a single layer on a baking sheet. Reserve the remaining marinade.
  • Step 5
    Bake for 20 minutes, flipping the ribs once halfway through.
  • Step 6
    Brush the ribs with the remaining marinade and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Remove from the oven and serve.
