Malabar Fish Curry
Malabar Fish Curry is a traditional fish curry from the Malabar region of India. It is a spicy and tangy dish that is usually made with mackerel, sardines, or any other type of fish. The curry is made with a combination of spices including turmeric, coriander, cumin, pepper, and fenugreek. The flavor is further enhanced with the addition of tamarind, curry leaves, and coconut milk. This flavorful and aromatic curry is typically served with steamed rice or roti, but can also be enjoyed with a variety of other dishes.
Ingredients (2 Persons)
- 4 fillets of white fish, such as cod or haddock
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground fennel
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
Directions

Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the fish, turmeric, cumin, coriander, chili powder, fennel, garam masala, and salt. Mix until the fish is evenly coated.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and bell pepper and cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute.

Add the fish and cook until it is lightly browned, about 3 minutes.

Add the coconut milk and water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and the fish is cooked through.

Garnish with the fresh cilantro and serve hot.
