Indian Naan Bread

Indian Naan Bread is a type of flatbread that is popular in India, Pakistan, and other South Asian countries. It is made from white flour, water, yeast, and vegetable oil. Naan is traditionally cooked in a tandoor oven, which gives it a unique smoky flavor. Naan is often served with curries and other dishes, and it is often served with butter, garlic, and herbs. It is also a popular accompaniment to Indian meals.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Directions

  • Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt. Stir in the oil, yogurt, and warm water until the mixture forms a soft dough.
  • Step 2
Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and knead for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces.
  • Step 3
Roll each piece of dough into a circle about 1/4-inch thick. Place the circles on a greased baking sheet and let them sit for 15 minutes.
  • Step 4
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. Bake the naan bread for 5-7 minutes, until it is golden brown.
