Salmon Nigiri Sushi

Salmon nigiri sushi is a popular type of sushi in Japan. It is a type of sushi that consists of a slice of raw salmon that is placed over a small ball of vinegared rice. It is usually topped with a small amount of soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger. The combination of the raw salmon, vinegared rice and condiments give the sushi a unique flavor that is both sweet and salty.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 (4 ounce) skinless salmon fillets
  • 1 teaspoon wasabi paste

Directions

  • Step 1
    Rinse the sushi rice in a strainer under cold running water until the water runs clear. Place the rinsed rice in a saucepan with 2 cups water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until the sugar and salt dissolve, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  • Step 3
    Rinse the salmon fillets under cold running water and pat dry with paper towels. Cut the salmon into thin slices and arrange on a plate.
  • Step 4
    Spread the cooked sushi rice over a sheet of nori. Place a thin layer of wasabi paste over the rice. Place a single slice of salmon on top of the wasabi paste.
