Japanese Sushi Rolls

Japanese sushi rolls are a type of sushi dish made from vinegared sushi rice and various other ingredients, such as seafood, vegetables, and sometimes tropical fruits. The rice is usually wrapped in nori seaweed, and the rolls are often cut into bite-sized pieces. Sushi rolls are a popular dish in Japan and around the world. They are often served in sushi restaurants and can also be made at home.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 4 cups cooked short-grain sushi rice
  • 4 sheets nori
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 avocado, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cooked, shelled shrimp
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Directions

  • Step 1
    In a small bowl, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Stir until the sugar and salt are dissolved.
  • Step 2
    Place the cooked sushi rice in a large bowl and pour the vinegar mixture over it. Gently fold the mixture together using a spatula or spoon.
  • Step 3
    Lay a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat. Spread a thin layer of the sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1/2 inch border at the top. Place the cucumber, avocado, and shrimp in a line down the middle of the rice.
  • Step 4
    Using the bamboo mat, roll the sushi into a tight cylinder. Seal the edge of the nori with a few drops of water.
  • Step 5
    Repeat with remaining nori, rice, and fillings. Slice the sushi into 1-inch pieces.
