Shiso Maki Sushi

Shiso Maki Sushi is a type of sushi roll that is made with shiso, a Japanese herb often used in sushi. It is usually filled with sushi rice, cucumber, and pickled shiso leaves. Sometimes, other ingredients such as pickled ginger, avocado, and egg may be added to the roll. The roll is then wrapped in nori or seaweed and cut into individual pieces. Shiso Maki Sushi is a popular appetizer or light meal and can be served with soy sauce and wasabi.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sheets nori seaweed
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1/2 cucumber, cut into thin strips
  • 1/2 avocado, cut into thin strips
  • 4 shiso leaves, cut into thin strips

Directions

  • Step 1
    Cook the sushi rice according to the package instructions. Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl and stir in the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
  • Step 2
    Lay a sheet of nori on a sushi mat. Spread the cooked rice on the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the edge.
  • Step 3
    Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the rice. Arrange the cucumber, avocado, and shiso leaves over the rice.
  • Step 4
    Using the mat, roll the sushi into a tight cylinder. Cut the roll into 8 pieces and serve.
