Chinese Dim Sum

Chinese dim sum is a type of cuisine that originated in the Cantonese region of southern China. It is traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates, and often involves a variety of bite-sized dishes, including steamed buns, dumplings, and other savory and sweet snacks. Chinese dim sum is known for its variety and flavor, and is a popular meal option in many Chinese restaurants.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1/4 cup boiled shrimp
  • 1/4 cup diced pork
  • 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup diced carrots
  • 1/4 cup diced cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Directions

  • Step 1
    In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Add vegetable oil and mix until it forms a crumbly texture.
  • Step 2
    Slowly add cold water and mix with a spoon until it forms a dough. Knead the dough for 5 minutes and then cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it with a rolling pin. Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of each flattened dough.
  • Step 4
    Fold the edges of the dough into the center and pinch to seal. Place the dim sum on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Serve hot with soy sauce and sesame oil.
