California Roll Sushi

The California Roll is a type of sushi made with avocado, cucumber, and crab (or imitation crab) rolled up in a sheet of nori and vinegared rice. It is usually rolled inside-out, so that the nori is on the inside and the rice is on the outside. It is often served with soy sauce and pickled ginger. The California Roll is one of the most popular types of sushi in the United States and is often the first type of sushi that many people try.

  • 4 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 4 sheets nori seaweed
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, cut into strips
  • 4 ounces smoked salmon, cut into strips
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cut into strips

Directions

  • Step 1
Lay a sheet of nori on a cutting board or sushi mat. Wet your hands with water and spread 1 cup of cooked sushi rice over the nori evenly, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the edges.

  • Step 3
Fold the nori over the filling and press together firmly.
