Onigiri Sushi

Onigiri sushi is a type of Japanese rice ball made with sushi rice and wrapped in nori (seaweed). It is often filled with various ingredients such as pickled plum, salmon, tuna, or other fillings. Onigiri sushi is a popular snack or light meal in Japan and is often served as part of bento boxes. It is also a popular item to take on picnics or on the go. Onigiri is an easy and convenient way to enjoy the flavors of sushi without having to make a full sushi roll.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 4 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sheets nori seaweed, cut into 4 pieces
  • 4 tablespoons furikake seasoning
  • 4 tablespoons umeboshi paste

Directions

  • Step 1
In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until the sugar and salt are dissolved.
  • Step 2
Place the cooked rice in a large bowl and pour the vinegar mixture over the top. Gently fold the vinegar mixture into the rice until it is evenly distributed.
  • Step 3
Divide the rice into 4 equal portions. Wet your hands with water to prevent the rice from sticking to your hands. Take one portion of the rice and shape it into a triangular onigiri.
  • Step 4
Place a piece of nori on top of the onigiri. Sprinkle the furikake seasoning on top. Place a teaspoon of umeboshi paste in the center of the onigiri. Fold the nori over the filling and press to seal.
  • Step 5
Repeat the process with the remaining portions of the rice to make 4 onigiri.
