Sesame Chicken

Sesame chicken is a popular Chinese dish consisting of deep fried chicken pieces coated in a sweet and savory sesame sauce. The dish is believed to have originated in the Hunan province of China, though it has since become popular in many other regions, including North America. The dish is usually served with steamed white rice and vegetables.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds

Directions

  • Step 1
    In a medium bowl, combine the cornstarch, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Mix until well combined.
  • Step 2
    Add the chicken cubes to the bowl and toss to coat in the marinade.
  • Step 3
    Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken cubes and cook until they are cooked through and golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Add the sesame seeds to the skillet and cook for an additional minute, stirring to coat the chicken.
  • Step 5
    Serve the sesame chicken over rice or noodles, with your favorite vegetables or a side salad.
