Salmon Roe Nigiri Sushi

Salmon roe nigiri sushi is a popular type of sushi made with cured salmon eggs. It is often served as a single piece, with the roe draped across a bed of vinegared rice. The roe itself is cured in a mix of salt and sugar, which helps to bring out its flavor and give it a slightly salty, sweet taste. The roe is then draped across the rice and may be garnished with other ingredients such as shiso leaf or scallions. Salmon roe nigiri sushi is a delightful treat and a great way to enjoy the natural flavors of the fish.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 cups uncooked sushi rice
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup salmon roe
  • Nori (toasted seaweed sheets) for wrapping

Directions

  • Step 1
Prepare the sushi rice according to the instructions on the package. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and let it cool.
  • Step 2
In a small bowl, mix together the rice vinegar, sugar, salt, and mirin (if using). Pour the mixture over the cooled sushi rice and mix together with a wooden spoon.
  • Step 3
Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the top of the sushi rice and mix together to combine.
  • Step 4
To assemble the nigiri sushi, take a handful of the sushi rice and shape it into an oval. Place the salmon roe on the middle of the sushi rice and wrap it with a piece of nori.
