Palak Paneer Curry

Palak Paneer Curry is a popular North Indian dish. It is a delicious combination of spiced spinach and paneer, a type of Indian cottage cheese. The dish is cooked with onion, ginger, garlic and a variety of spices including coriander, cumin, garam masala, and turmeric. The addition of cream or nuts gives the dish a rich, creamy texture. It is often served as a side dish with naan, roti, or paratha.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground chili powder
  • 3 cups spinach, chopped
  • 1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (14 ounce) package paneer, cubed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Step 1
    Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they are fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Step 2
    Add the onion and cook until it is tender and lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and ginger, and cook for 1 minute.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the coriander, cumin, turmeric, and chili powder. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Step 4
    Add the spinach, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Stir in the garam masala, cayenne pepper, and paneer. Cook for 5 minutes, until the paneer is heated through.
  • Step 6
    Season with salt and pepper to taste.
