Japanese Teriyaki Chicken

Japanese Teriyaki Chicken is a popular dish of Japanese cuisine which consists of chicken cooked in a mixture of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. The marinade is sometimes also enhanced with garlic, ginger, or other spices. The chicken is usually grilled, broiled, or pan-fried and served with the marinade as a glaze. It is a popular dish in Japan and is often served with other dishes such as rice, noodles, or vegetables.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup mirin
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Directions

  • Step 1
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, honey, ginger, and garlic until combined.
  • Step 2
Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and stir to coat. Cover and place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.
  • Step 3
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken thighs (discarding any excess marinade) and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through.
  • Step 4
Add the marinade to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  • Step 5
Serve the chicken with the sauce and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
