Korean Beef Bulgogi

Korean beef bulgogi is a popular dish originating in South Korea. It is made by marinating thinly sliced beef in a mixture of soy sauce, garlic, sugar, sesame oil, and other spices, and then cooking it over an open flame or on a grill. The marinated beef is typically served with a side of vegetables and rice, and is often eaten as part of a larger Korean meal. Bulgogi is an essential part of traditional Korean cuisine, and can be found in restaurants throughout the country.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  • Step 1
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, mirin, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and black pepper.
  • Step 2
Add the ground beef to the marinade and stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 8 hours.
  • Step 3
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef and marinade to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is cooked through and the sauce has thickened, about 10 minutes.
  • Step 4
Serve the beef over rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired.
