Indian Paneer Tikka Masala

Indian Paneer Tikka Masala is a classic dish from the North Indian region. It is made from cubes of paneer (a type of fresh cheese) marinated in a spicy yogurt sauce and then cooked in a creamy tomato-based sauce. The dish is usually served with naan, paratha, or rice. It is a popular dish in Indian restaurants around the world as well as in India. Paneer Tikka Masala is often considered to be a healthier alternative to other popular North Indian dishes such as butter chicken and korma.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 (14 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 (14 ounce) package paneer, cubed

Directions

  • Step 1
    Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute more.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the garam masala, cumin, coriander, chili powder, turmeric, and cayenne pepper (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes, until the spices are fragrant.
  • Step 4
    Add the tomatoes and bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 5
    Stir in the cream and paneer. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together.
