Japanese Gyoza Dumplings
Japanese gyoza dumplings are a delicious and popular type of potsticker native to Japan. They are made with a thin, wheat-based wrapper filled with a variety of fillings including minced pork, cabbage, green onion, garlic and ginger. Gyoza can be steamed, boiled, pan-fried or deep-fried, and are often served as a side dish, appetizer, or main course. They can also be found in many Japanese restaurants and supermarkets.
Ingredients (2 Persons)
- 1 pound ground pork or chicken
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons mirin
- 1/4 cup finely chopped chives
- 1/4 cup finely chopped scallions
- 24 wonton wrappers
Directions
-
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix together the ground pork or chicken, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, mirin, chives, and scallions.
-
Step 2
Lay out the wonton wrappers on a work surface. Place 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper.
-
Step 3
Using your finger, wet the edges of each wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half over the filling and press along the edges to seal.
-
Step 4
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, and add the gyoza. Cook until the bottoms are golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
-
Step 5
Add 1/4 cup of water to the skillet and cover. Cook until the gyoza are cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
