Indonesian Fried Tempeh

Indonesian Fried Tempeh is a popular vegetarian dish in Indonesia. It is made from fermented soybeans that are pressed into a cake, cut into cubes, and fried until golden brown. The tempeh is then served with a variety of sauces and toppings, such as chili sauce, garlic, and scallions. This dish is often eaten as a side dish or as a main dish with rice. It is a great option for vegetarians and vegans, as it is high in protein and fiber.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 8-ounce packages of tempeh, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup tamari
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

Directions

  • Step 1
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add the tempeh cubes and cook until lightly golden, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 2
In a small bowl, whisk together the tamari, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and cumin. Pour the sauce over the tempeh and stir to coat.
  • Step 3
Continue to cook the tempeh for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has reduced and the tempeh is golden and crispy.
