Chana Masala Curry

Chana Masala Curry is a flavorful Indian dish consisting of chickpeas cooked in a spicy tomato-based sauce. It is usually served with rice or naan bread. Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (14-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  • Step 1
    Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, ginger, and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened and lightly browned, about 8 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Stir in the cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, paprika, and cayenne and cook for 1 minute, stirring often.
  • Step 3
    Add the tomatoes and their juices, chickpeas, and cilantro and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thickened and the flavors have melded together, about 10 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Season with salt to taste and serve.
