Unagi Nigiri Sushi

Unagi Nigiri Sushi is a popular type of sushi that is made with grilled eel and rice. It is a traditional Japanese dish that has been enjoyed for centuries. The eel is marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, then grilled and placed on top of a bed of sushi rice. The combination of the flavorful eel and the sweet and sour flavor of the sauce make this a very popular sushi dish. It is usually served with pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 1 pound sushi grade unagi (eel)
  • 4 cups short grain sushi rice
  • 2 tablespoons sushi vinegar
  • 2 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • Pickled ginger and wasabi, for serving

Directions

  • Step 1
Start by preparing the unagi. Slice it into 4 equal pieces and set aside.
  • Step 2
Cook the sushi rice according to package instructions. Once cooked, stir in the sushi vinegar.
  • Step 3
Lay a sheet of nori on a cutting board. Wet your hands and spread 1 cup of the prepared sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving a gap at the top.
  • Step 4
Place a piece of unagi in the center of the rice and wrap the nori around it. Cut off the excess nori with a sharp knife.
  • Step 5
Repeat with the remaining nori, rice, and unagi.
  • Step 6
Serve with pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce.
