Tekka Maki Sushi

Tekka Maki Sushi is a traditional Japanese sushi roll filled with raw tuna, or “tekka”. The roll is made with strips of raw tuna, seaweed, and sushi rice wrapped in nori, or dried seaweed sheets. It is one of the most popular types of sushi rolls in Japan, and is often served as an appetizer or light meal. Tekka maki is a great way to enjoy the fresh taste of tuna, and is a healthy and delicious option for any sushi lover.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 4 sheets of nori seaweed
  • 4 cups of cooked sushi rice
  • 2 avocados, sliced
  • 2 cucumbers, sliced
  • 1/2 cup of pickled ginger
  • 1/4 cup of toasted sesame seeds
  • wasabi paste, to taste

Directions

  • Step 1
    Lay a sheet of nori on a bamboo rolling mat. Spread 1 cup of cooked sushi rice onto the nori.
  • Step 2
    Arrange the slices of avocado and cucumber towards the edge of the nori sheet, forming a straight line.
  • Step 3
    Roll the nori sheet, using the bamboo rolling mat, to form a cylinder. Make sure that the ingredients are tucked inside the roll.
  • Step 4
    Repeat with the remaining ingredients until you have 4 rolls.
  • Step 5
    Cut each roll into 8 pieces with a sharp knife. Arrange the pieces on a plate.
  • Step 6
    Garnish with pickled ginger, toasted sesame seeds, and wasabi paste, if desired.
