Sweet and Sour Chicken

Sweet and Sour Chicken is a popular dish in Chinese cuisine. It consists of diced chicken, usually deep-fried, and then tossed in a sweet and sour sauce. The sauce typically contains ingredients such as vinegar, sugar, and tomato ketchup. Sometimes vegetables such as bell peppers and onions are added to the dish. Sweet and Sour Chicken is usually served with steamed rice.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks

Directions

  • Step 1
    Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken cubes, and cook until lightly browned, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 2
    In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic powder, and ginger. Pour the mixture over the chicken, and stir to coat.
  • Step 3
    Reduce heat to low, cover skillet, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 4
    Stir in the pineapple chunks, and simmer for 10 more minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
