Sake Nigiri Sushi

Sake Nigiri Sushi is a type of sushi that is made from raw sushi-grade salmon, or sake, and vinegared rice. It is one of the most popular types of sushi in Japan and is often served in sushi restaurants. The fish is lightly seared to give it a slightly smoky flavor which contrasts with the sweet and sour taste of the rice. Sake Nigiri Sushi is a great choice for sushi lovers who prefer a lighter flavor and texture.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 cups short-grain sushi rice
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup sake (Japanese rice wine)
  • 16 pieces of sushi-grade salmon
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • Wasabi, to taste (optional)

Directions

  • Step 1
Prepare the sushi rice according to the instructions on the package. Set aside.
  • Step 2
In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt over medium-high heat until the sugar and salt have dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Step 3
Cut the salmon into 16 equal pieces. Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the salmon pieces and set aside.
  • Step 4
To assemble the nigiri sushi, take a handful of the prepared sushi rice and press it into a triangle shape. Place a piece of salmon on top of the rice and press lightly to secure. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  • Step 5
Serve the nigir sushi with wasabi, if desired.
