Nepalese Momos
Nepalese Momos are a type of dumpling popular in Nepal and many other parts of South Asia. They are usually made with ground meat and vegetables, and can be served either steamed or fried. It is believed that the origin of Momos dates back to the 7th century, when they were served as snacks in the royal courts of Nepal. Today, Momos are an integral part of Nepalese culture, and are served as appetizers, snacks, and even main dishes. They are also popular in India, Bhutan, and Tibet, and have been gaining in popularity in other parts of the world.
Ingredients (2 Persons)
- 1 pound ground pork
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
- 1/4 cup chopped scallions
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 32 wonton wrappers
Directions
-
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili flakes, cilantro, mint, scallions, oil, and salt. Mix until combined.
-
Step 2
Lay a wonton wrapper on a work surface. Place 1 tablespoon of the pork mixture in the center of the wrapper. Use your finger to wet the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal.

Step 3
Place the momos on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling. Cover the momos with a damp paper towel until ready to cook.
-
Step 4
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Add the momos to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the bottoms are golden brown. Flip the momos and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until golden brown.
-
Step 5
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
