Indonesian Risoles

Indonesian Risoles are a popular snack in Indonesia. They are made from a combination of ground beef, potatoes, spices, and seasonings, all rolled in a thin pastry crust. The filling is then deep-fried until golden brown. The risoles can be served as an appetizer or a main dish, and are often served with a chili or tomato sauce. They are also a popular street food, and often sold from carts or street vendors.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Directions

  • Step 1
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until it is no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  • Step 2
Add the onion, garlic, ginger, coriander, cumin, curry powder, and turmeric to the skillet and cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
Stir in the cilantro and remove the skillet from the heat. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  • Step 4
In a large bowl, combine the egg and breadcrumbs. Add the cooled beef mixture and stir to combine.
  • Step 5
Form the mixture into small balls and flatten them into patties. Heat a thin layer of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Step 6
Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
