Goan Fish Curry

Goan Fish Curry is a traditional Indian dish from the state of Goa. It is a spicy and flavorful curry made with fish, spices, and coconut milk. Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoons grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 cups canned diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 lb. fish fillets (such as cod or haddock)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Directions

  • Step 1
    Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the mustard seeds and cook until they begin to pop, about 1 minute.
  • Step 2
    Add the ginger, garlic, and onion and cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the coriander, cumin, turmeric, cayenne pepper, and black pepper and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the spices are fragrant.
  • Step 4
    Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, water, and coconut milk. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Add the fish fillets to the sauce and season with salt. Simmer for 8-10 minutes, until the fish is cooked through.
  • Step 6
    Serve with hot cooked basmati rice or naan bread.
