Shrimp Nigiri Sushi

Shrimp Nigiri Sushi is a type of sushi made with cooked shrimp set atop a pressed block of rice. It is a popular type of sushi in Japan and is often served at sushi restaurants. The shrimp is typically seasoned with a teriyaki-style sauce or soy sauce and the rice is usually seasoned with vinegar, sugar, and salt. Shrimp Nigiri Sushi is usually served with wasabi, pickled ginger, and soy sauce.

Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 500g cooked sushi rice
  • 500g sushi-grade shrimp
  • 1 sheet nori
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Wasabi paste (optional)

Directions

  • Step 1
    Clean and devein the shrimp, leaving the tails intact.
  • Step 2
    Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the shrimp and cook for 2 minutes, until the shrimp are just cooked through.
  • Step 3
    Remove the shrimp from the water and let them cool. Peel and devein the shrimp, leaving the tails intact.
  • Step 4
    Lay a sheet of nori on a cutting board and spread the cooked sushi rice over the nori, leaving a 1/2 inch border on one side of the nori.
  • Step 5
    Lay the shrimp on top of the rice, in a single layer. Sprinkle with sesame oil and soy sauce.
  • Step 6
    Roll the nori and rice up, starting from the side without the border. Wet the border of the nori with a bit of water to help seal the roll.
  • Step 7
    Cut the roll into 8 equal pieces and serve with wasabi paste (if using).
