Indonesian Sate Ayam

Indonesian Sate Ayam is a popular dish in Indonesia. It consists of chicken skewers marinated in spices and grilled on an open fire or charcoal grill. It is served with a sweet and spicy peanut sauce and can be eaten with steamed white rice, lontong (rice cakes), or ketupat (rice cakes wrapped in coconut leaves). Ingredients (2 Persons)

  • 2 lbs. skinless, boneless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Skewers for grilling

Directions

  • Step 1
    In a large bowl, combine the chicken, garlic, coriander, turmeric, ginger, curry powder, cumin, brown sugar, fish sauce, oil, coconut milk, peanut butter, lime juice, salt and pepper.
  • Step 2
    Mix until all ingredients are well combined. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  • Step 4
    Thread the chicken onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece.
  • Step 5
    Grill the chicken for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through and golden brown.
  • Step 6
    Serve with your favorite dipping sauces.
